CORE is proud to partner with innovative Australian employers who are at the forefront of injury prevention and management in their workforce.
These companies actively invest in proactive workplace initiatives, including:
- pre-employment screening,
- injury management,
- adoption of health and work fitness standards and
- matching job design to recruitment processes
to reduce the human and financial cost of injury within the workplace.
Actively engaging CORE to undertake Early Intervention Program services, is translating into tangible cost benefits for employers, rewarded with reductions in workplace injury rates, lost productivity, lost time injuries whilst increasing employee retention and satisfaction with a corresponding decrease in insurance premiums and common law payouts.
WHAT WE KNOW
Our occupational findings have identified how employers can mitigate employee strains or injuries, therefore reducing lost time injuries (LTI’s) and insurance/ work cover expenses.
By activating an Early Intervention Program in the workplace an employer can utilise CORE for the following:
- Pre-existing musculoskeletal or biomechanical factors: Through our pre-employment medicals we test an employee’s ability to fulfill the role based on our knowledge of the work fitness standards, including drug, alcohol and physical tasks such as bending, lifting. These physical tests can identify areas of vulnerability or risk of injury due to hypermobility or pre-existing musculoskeletal factors, highlighting for the business an individual’s capacity and capability to perform tasks.
- Job requisites and recruitment: Through onsite visits and a clear understanding of the physical duties of roles in the business, the Core team provide recommendations on the ideal physical capacity of candidates for recruitment (working in confined spaces, bending, lifting etc).
- Timely Reporting: Historically, employees experiencing minor issues or niggles believe it will get better and fail to report in a timely manner. However, our evidence proves by intervening early we can provide recommendations on how to mitigate the risk of perceived non-serious issues becoming medium to long term injuries.
- GP Referrals and Scans: Employees consult their GP when injured, however most patients are sent for scans and given time off work pending results consequently delaying treatment and returning to work. However, our speciliased occupational physios are trained to undertake injury assessments, reporting back to the employer and GP on injury findings and modified duties to minimise lost time injuries, whilst providing a treatment plan to expedite a return to work for the employee.
- Injury Management: Our priority is to avoid injuries, however in the advent an employee is injured the Core team will recommend the best medical specialists available and undertake Work Cover administrative requirements linking with experienced specialists to expedite appointment times.
WHAT WE PROVIDE
- Services can be very generic and meaningless with a guarantee that everyone will have tight muscles somewhere that need to be stretched.
- However, as occupational physiotherapists we ensure what we are focusing on is a worker’s longevity in physical aspects of the role they perform considering their health overall, injury history and workload with strategies to target their vulnerabilities by providing:
- Experienced clinicians with up to 25 years’ experience in assessments and physiotherapy treatments.
- Rapid and accurate injury assessments and clinical treatments including diagnosis if possible (endeavoring to accommodate workers within 24 hours).
- Medical referrals when required, plus communication with employer and employee’s GP regarding likely diagnosis and recommendations on adjusted duties within the workplace.
- Acute injury/symptom/pain management advice and home based exercised to assist in recovery process and ensuring employee feels supported.
- Site visits for workers on an individual and team basis. Ergonomic and task analysis for areas of concern, workforce injury prevention screening programs (eg. musculoskeletal, back and shoulder vulnerability) and seminar/education sessions.
WHAT IT COSTS
- Initial assessment costs based on Queensland Compensation Initial Physiotherapy Rates of $129.00 for an initial consultation and $101.00 for subsequent follow ups.

What is Occupational Rehabilitation?
Occupational Rehabilitation is the process of supporting individuals who have been injured, developed a disability, or have a medical condition, to maintain or return to work. It involves minimising the impact of their functional limitations on work productivity and the workplace. Occupational Rehabilitation programs are often developed by occupational therapists in collaboration with individuals, workplaces, and insurers, with the aim of addressing individual needs and capabilities to help the person achieve maximum sustainable employment.
What are the Benefits of Occupational Rehabilitation?
Occupational rehabilitation brings a range of benefits to individuals recovering from injuries or illnesses. Firstly, it helps improve productivity and job satisfaction, fostering a sense of accomplishment. Secondly, it aids in the restoration of physical and mental health, empowering individuals to regain their independence and perform daily activities.
- Improved productivity and job satisfaction.
- Enhanced physical and mental health.
- Regained independence and functional abilities.
- Prevention of deformities and pain reduction.
- Decreased risk of falls.
- Enhanced home safety and communication.
- Improved overall quality of life.
Occupational rehabilitation programs also focus on enhancing range of motion, strength, balance, coordination, and flexibility, leading to improved physical abilities. These programs contribute to the prevention of deformities, pain, and falls. Additionally, occupational rehabilitation modifies home environments to enhance safety, supports communication after brain injury, and ultimately improves the quality of life.
In Which Cases Should I Look for an Occupational Rehabilitation Professional?
If you have sustained an injury, developed a disability, or have a medical condition that affects your ability to work, you may want to consider consulting with an occupational rehabilitation professional. Occupational rehabilitation professionals can assist in the following cases:
- Injuries sustained from work, such as fractures, sprains, and strains.
- Chronic pain and discomfort.
- Neurological conditions, such as stroke, brain injury, or Parkinson’s disease.
- Mental health conditions, such as depression or anxiety.
- Cardiovascular or respiratory conditions, including heart attack or asthma.
- Cancer and its treatment.
- Repetitive strain injuries (RSIs) caused by the overuse of specific muscles or groups of muscles.
Does the NDIS Cover Occupational Rehabilitation Treatment?
Yes, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) covers Occupational Rehabilitation Treatment, as part of its funding support for individuals with permanent or significant disabilities. Occupational therapists, who play a vital role in assisting participants to achieve their goals and lead independent lives, are often funded by the NDIS.
Under the NDIS plan, the Improved Daily Living support category commonly covers occupational rehabilitation services, including work conditioning, ergonomics assessment, functional capacity evaluation, job coaching and placement services, and return-to-work planning. This means that individuals eligible for NDIS funding can access Occupational Rehabilitation Treatment to support their recovery and participation in everyday life.
What is Functional Capacity Evaluation?
A functional capacity evaluation (FCE) is an assessment that measures an individual’s physical abilities and determines their capacity to meet the functional demands associated with their pre-injury role or desired activity. It involves a series of tests that evaluate factors such as strength, endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular tolerance.
FCEs are used to assist in the recovery and return to work process, helping to determine whether an individual has the necessary attributes for a specific job and monitoring their progress during rehabilitation. We believe in the importance of early intervention, as it allows for quick assessment, treatment, and guidance on suitable duties, functional capacity, and implementation of a personalised treatment plan for injured workers. Whether on-site or at our clinics, our experienced physiotherapists are dedicated to helping you recover and get back to work as quickly as possible.
Spinal Work Injury Triage Clinic
The secrets of early intervention through rapid assessment and management are well-known in the medical community. With injuries sustained at work through to motor vehicle accidents, prompt management can often be impeded due to delays associated with insurance claim processes, impeding the likelihood of best patient return-to-work outcomes.
To mitigate these factors, our Spinal Work Injury Triage clinic was developed in partnership with some of South East Queensland’s leading Spinal Surgeons and Pain Specialists. For the last 5 years, we have been running clinics on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane.
Since its inception, we have assessed and managed over 750 referred injured workers. Our program aims to have screened the majority of patients with specialist review around 4-6 weeks post-injury, and ideally within 2 weeks of GP referral.
Proposed interventions, including surgery and rehabilitation programs (where appropriate), are more likely to be successful with the minimisation of secondary overlay factors including yellow (psychosocial), blue (industrial), and black flags (compensation/legal factors) flags.
To date, we have achieved a 92% return-to-work rate for our patients which has ensured benefits from the process are being shared between the injured worker, the relevant employer and the insurer.
Spinal Rehab Program
Core muscles maintain lumbar curvature, and lumbar segmental positioning, and control the subtle motions above, below and adjacent to the damaged point in the spine.
Even when surgery is required, continuing to strengthen the deep spinal muscles will assist post-surgical outcomes. While the surgical role is to rectify the failed structure (disc, joint fusion etc), this does not automatically restore normal core stability to support the surrounding area.
Our focused rehabilitation process re-educates the body on how to engage these muscles and builds the stable platform the spine requires so we can squat, bend, walk, lift and carry things once we have recovered.
We utilise Real-time Ultrasound feedback to assist our patients with muscle re-education of these muscles.

Our Exercise Classes
Exercising Smarter, by gaining your best results without increased risk of associated injury, is our vision with Core’s PhysioExercise Classes.
In the last decade the health and fitness industry has seen the exponential rise in popularity of boot camp, cross fit and interval-training classes, largely driven by the massive increase in “qualified” personal trainers, exercise studios, gyms and health clubs.
As practising Physiotherapists, we’ve witnessed the extent of associated injuries from such training systems, and too frequently we have clients seeking a safer form of group exercise, which still ensures progressive health and fitness results.
From April 1st 2019, the Federal Government determined that all classes undertaken under the “Pilates” banner are no longer health fund claimable. Only Physiotherapists are able to supervise individual and group exercising classes inclusive of a multitude of exercise types for health fund rebates to apply.
PhysioExercise was designed by the Senior Leadership team at Core to incorporate:
- All workouts into one progressive class system, ensuring each client experiences the shared training benefits of core stability, flexibility, cardiovascular and resistance exercise whilst being clinically supervised by Health Professionals.
- Ensuring our clients are Exercising Smarter by gaining the best results without increased risk of associated injury.
Classes available at our Banyo, Beenleigh, Mermaid, Sorrento, or Tugun clinics.
Types of Group Exercise Classes
At Core, we offer a diverse range of group exercise classes tailored to meet your specific needs. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, aiming to improve your overall fitness, or seeking specialised exercise programs, our classes have you covered.
Choose from options such as strength and conditioning, mobility and flexibility, balance and stability, and more. We understand that one size doesn’t fit all, so our classes are designed to cater to a variety of fitness levels and abilities.
Safe Fitness Classes at Core Physiotherapy & Exercise Centres
Your safety and well-being are our top priorities. That’s why our group exercise classes are led by experienced physiotherapists who understand the intricacies of the human body.

- Mental Health: Group exercise has profound effects on your mental well-being. It can alleviate stress, reduce anxiety, and combat symptoms of depression. The positive impact on mood and mental health is a significant benefit of these classes.
- Energy Boost: Consistent attendance at group exercise sessions will boost your energy levels. You’ll find yourself with increased vitality and enthusiasm for daily activities.
- Quality of Life: Ultimately, engaging in group exercise enhances your quality of life. It contributes to greater physical health, emotional well-being, and a more satisfying and active lifestyle.

We can also modify exercises to accommodate injuries, ensuring a safe and effective workout. With a physiotherapist at the helm, you’ll receive expert guidance, reducing the risk of injury and optimising the results of your fitness efforts in a way that works for you.

A Rehabilitation in the home program allows you to receive care in your own home, when it’s clinically appropriate, instead of having your rehabilitation in hospital. This means more freedom to have your family, friends and pets around you, and enjoy all the things that make life more comfortable. Rehabilitation in the home may help you to feel more supported both physically and emotionally as well as reducing the strain on partners and carers. It is also more convenient, eliminating the need to travel to follow-up appointments.
After surgery, a period of rehabilitation may be required to help you recover and optimise your health and independence. Physiotherapy is a crucial part of rehabilitation after surgery.
A Physio’s role
Following a surgical procedure, your physiotherapist will carry out an assessment to understand your physical abilities and limitations. They will establish personal goals and implement a treatment plan. Your physiotherapist’s aim is to help you regain range of movement in your joints, strengthen your muscles, reduce swelling, and help restore normal movement.
- There are a range of treatment techniques that can be used. “Hands on” treatment such as massage to help break down scar tissue and to encourage circulation to the healing area. “Hands off” treatment may include tailored exercises to help improve flexibility, strength, and balance.
- They will teach you how to wean off any walking aids (such as zimmer frames or crutches) and teach you how to move up and down stairs correctly.
- Your physiotherapist will provide you with a personalised rehabilitation programme to progress your recovery.
Your Physio will provide you with information, encouragement and support every step of the way.
