Headache and migraine treatment

Our Approach

Headache disorders, including migraines, are among the most complex conditions we see in practice. At our Beenleigh clinic, David Appleby and Johnny Tawhara – two of our senior physiotherapists – have undertaken advanced training in the Watson Headache® Approach, giving them a deep understanding of how the upper cervical spine contributes to headache and migraine disorders.

The Watson Headache® Approach is a series of manual; non-manipulative cervical spine techniques embedded in an innovative clinical reasoning process. It is designed to identify and address previously unrecognised patterns of musculoskeletal dysfunction that drive headaches, migraine, and associated conditions.

David and Johnny have years of experience in the assessment and treatment of headache and migraine disorders that stem from the upper cervical spine – the top three vertebrae of the neck. These vertebrae are closely connected to the trigeminal nerve, which plays a central role in headache pathways. By assessing and treating dysfunction in this region, it is often possible to significantly reduce head pain and associated neurological symptoms.

Where appropriate, treatment is supported by corrective exercises and posture guidance to reduce neck strain and help prevent pain from returning.
